Club History
San Francisco Youth Field Hockey starts thanks to the generosity of the USA Field Hockey Grow the Game Grant. With 24 sticks and 24 balls the club hosts its first practice at the YMCA Letterman Gym
Programming increases to include Summer Camp. The club welcomes 18 campers for one week full of fun, growth and lots of field hockey.
The Fall 2019 season kicks-off with a road trip to UC Berkeley to watch the D1 NCAA match between the Cal Bears and the Michigan Wolverines. Club members are anthem buddies for both Cal and Michigan.
On the bus ride to Cal the San Francisco Youth Field Hockey Club members select our mascot. We return from Berkeley as the San Francisco Hawks.
The club expands programming again with the launch of a winter season. True to its core mission the San Francisco Youth Field Hockey club hosts a free clinic to any and all K - 8th graders who are interested in trying out a sport. All participants leave with a free stick, a free ball and a new love of field hockey.
The spring season is cut short due to the COVID pandemic. The San Francisco Youth Field Hockey keeps the sport going through online practices and “quarantrainings.”
The club expands to offer all youth age groups, now ranging from U08 to U19. Excited to welcome high school players to the club! Programming also expands to offer practices two days per week.
Return to Cal Cup with four teams: U10 COED, U12 COED, U14 Girls, U16 Girls.
Programming expands with stick skills, hitting skills and goalkeeper training in addition to weekly team practices, providing players the opportunity to improve their individual skills.
The biggest and most competitive season delivers with UC Davis, Stanford, Spring Fling, Cal Cup and Tiny Tourney! The U16 girls travel to San Diego to compete in the Region Club Championship for the first time in club history
Hawks send 6 teams to Cal Cup: U08 coed, U10 coed, U12 coed, U14 girls, U16 boys, and U16 girls. Our U16 girls took home first place!
After 1 year of fundraising with grants from The Olympic Club Foundation Rise of Girls Sports Fund, Tom Harris Boys Play Field Hockey Grant, USA Field Hockey Grow the Game Bessant Grant and countless donations from members of our community, our field of dreams is becoming a reality!
The U16 squad qualifies for the National Club Championships, one of the highest achievements for a team. Only 24 teams per age group make the cut and get to stamp their tickets to USA Field Hockey's training facilities in Virginia Beach, VA.

Hard work: Nothing worth having comes easy. Achievement starts with effort. Hard work means showing up consistently and embracing challenges. Pushing yourself. When players learn the value of hard work on the field, they gain a lesson that will serve them far beyond the game.
Growth: At Hawks, we teach our players to embrace a growth mindset: that fear of failure will stop you from reaching your fullest potential. New skills and mistakes are opportunities to grow. We learn most from our mistakes. By focusing on progress over perfection, process over outcome, our athletes develop resilience and confidence. Skills that will serve them well on and off the field
Competitive Spirit: Nothing fuels us more than competition. It sharpens our focus and inspires us to push beyond what we thought was possible. Most importantly, it gives us the chance to demonstrate all of our core values. We compete not to win, but to honor the work we’ve put in and represent our Hawks family with pride.
Fun: What is all this about if we are not having fun? Fun is what keeps players coming back to the sport. We inject laughter and games into each practice because we believe that having fun brings out the best in players.
